THE
WEIGHT OF DEATH IS A MYSTERY ![]()
My wife Judith Moore spent the summer of 2002 studying Tai Chi and Qi Gong in China. Among the things she brought back was a large black and white paper- cut. I studied the thing for three months before beginning to mount, mat and frame it. I decided to sandwich the papercut between two sheets of Plexiglas, so that the intricate silhouettes of the design would cast a shadow on the white mounting board. During the same time I was making 11 X 17" sheets of handmade paper. Unwilling to invest the time necessary to learn Chinese paper cutting, I opted for printing on 12 X 18" transparencies and mounting them over the sheets of handmade paper. These are the results of those experiments.
"The Weight of Death is a Mystery I, II and III" are available for $1,100 each, matted and framed. Shipping and handling charges are not included in these prices. For details e-mail art@artattackalaska.com "The Weight of Death is a Mystery IV" is in the permanent collection of the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Anchorage, Alaska.
